Mrs. Grace “Arlene” Bloomgren, 76, of Galesburg, Illinois died 3:10 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg. 

She was born June 27, 1946, in Galesburg to John Ralph and Grace A. (Downer) Fields.  She married Harold D. Bloomgren, January 8, 1966, in Henderson, Illinois. 

Surviving is her husband of 57 years, Harold Bloomgren of Galesburg, a son, John L. (and Tori) Bloomgren of Wataga, Illinois, a daughter, Katie Doss of Peoria, Illinois, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Sara S. Bloomgren on June 26, 2018, a brother, Lyle Puffinbarger, and a sister, Ellen Wake. 

Arlene was raised in Galesburg and graduated from Galesburg High School in 1964.  When she was young, she worked for Arlen’s department store in Galesburg.  She later worked for Retail Grocery Inventory Service for several years and later the Jacks store in Monmouth, Illinois.  She was a member of the Covenant Church and later attended Faith United Methodist Church in Galesburg.  Arlene was a volunteer at the Galesburg Cottage Hospital Senior Circle for over 15 years.  She enjoyed teaching computer skills for the Senior Circle.  She also volunteered at the Great Lakes Naval Training Hospital in the Chicago, Illinois area and the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia.  She was also a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts.  Arlene was a caring person and loved her family. 

As Arlene requested, cremation will be accorded.  A Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 20, 2023, at the Faith United Methodist Church, Galesburg.  Rev. Vincent Marolla will officiate.  Burial will be in Warren County Hope Cemetery, rural Alexis, Illinois.  Memorials may be made to the Faith United Methodist Church or to the charity of the donor’s choice.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com
