A big shakeup for area athletics is set to take place in the 2024-2025 school year. In a 4-3 vote last week, the Mercer County school board decided to officially accept an invite from the Three Rivers Athletic Conference and join their conference for all IHSA competition. The move means that the Golden Eagles will leave the Lincoln Trail Conference after 15 years of competing in the LTC, dating all the way back to 2009 when Aledo and Westmer first consolidated to form the Mercer County school district. Monmouth-Roseville Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Jeremy Adolphson has spent the past several years coaching in the TRAC, and says the move came as a surprise to him, but it makes sense for bother Mercer County and the conference in general.
Mercer County’s arrival to the Three Rivers is in perfect timing for the conference, as Peru-St.Bede will exit from the conference after the end of this school year. For the full interview with Athletic Director Adolphson, visit the Sports Podcast section.
