Some Areas of Drought Popping Up in Illinois

Share

Some areas of drought are popping up in Illinois. Last weekend’s series of storms brought rain to most areas. But the heaviest rain fell in tight bands across Illinois, making for significant disparities in rainfall totals says State Climatologist Trent Ford.

“One band of two to three inches stretched along Interstate 74 from Peoria to Champaign, while areas ten to twenty miles north and south picked up closer to one inch total. Another band of three to five inches stretched from Macomb to Taylorville and areas around Chatham and Sangamon County picked up nearly eight inches total.”

Ford says parts of Western Illinois didn’t get as much rain this past week, pushing portions of Adams, Pike and Calhoun Counties into moderate drought conditions. The metro east area, as well as spots in eastern and central Illinois are considered to be abnormally dry.
