May is National Beef Month. As the United States remains the world’s largest beef producer in 2023 and is now the second largest consumer, the month of May is used to recognize farmers and ranchers in the beef industry, which is seeing historically high market prices, says Land O’ Lakes Senior Officer and Tri-County Cattlemen Treasurer Thad Tharp:

“Beef month is all about beef promotion. From a market standpoint it is historically a really good time for beef to be marketed as everybody is getting their grills ready to fire up and it is a good peak season. Now, this year is historically unbelievably high already. From the beef industry, times are really good. Even with the higher cost of money, these beef markets are really nice right now, but what goes up must come down, so know your risks.”

According to RFD-TV, the American beef industry raised 28.4 billion pounds of beef last year, accounting for 22 percent of the world’s total beef production.
