Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending May 21, 2023:
The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is junior girls track and field athlete, Carmyn Huston. Carmyn brought home a medal from the IHSA Class 2A state finals in Charleston for the second straight year. Her toss of 38′ 4″ was good enough for 7th place. Earlier this season, Carmyn claimed both the shot put and discus titles at the Three Rivers Conference championship meet.
The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is boys track and field athletes, seniors Andrew Olson, Sam Perry and Abel Wilson and junior Landon Burns. These four teamed up to place 5th in a loaded 4×200 meter relay race at the sectional meet in Kewanee. Their time of 1:33.73 was good enough to send them to the IHSA Class 1A state finals in Charleston. Earlier this season, the same four guys placed 3rd at the Lincoln Trail Conference championship meet.
The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is senior baseball player, Bryce Bigger. Bryce pitched and hit the Heat to a class 1A regional quarterfinal win over the Illini Central/Greeview co-op. He threw 5.1 innings, giving up just 3 hits and 1 earned run, while throwing 13 strikeouts out of the 16 outs that were recorded. Bryce also scored a pair of runs, as well.
The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is junior track and field athlete, Tyler Condreay. Tyler had a great final week of the season, earning four top-10 finishes in two meets. He was 5th in the 100 meter dash and 9th in the long jump at the class 1A sectional meet in Kewanee. His time in the 100 was just .4 from qualifying for the state finals. Earlier in the week, Tyler was 2nd in the 100 meter dash at the BPC Invite.
The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is boys track and field athletes, senior Bryson Thomas and Junior Plamedi Nseka. Both of these young men will run in three events at the upcoming class 2A state finals in Charleston. They are both a part two relay teams that placed high enough at the sectional meet to advance to the finals. Bryson also placed 5th in the 200 meter dash but his time will send him to Charleston. Plamedi won the 400 meter dash.
