Always Practice Water Safety and Stay Safe this Summer Swimming Season

Share

Summer is in full swing and with that comes swimming and practicing water safety, reminds Monmouth Fire Captain Craig Cozadd:

“Whether it is a private pool or a lake, again keep in mind if you have been consuming alcohol, really think about that. If you have young children, especially, make sure you are constantly watching them, use life jackets, or floats. It takes just a split second for something to happen. Also remove ladders form pools, covers, all the safety things that are involved. Make sure when you are enjoying the water that you are constantly keeping an eye. It doesn’t have to be just with a pool, and it may not even be your situation, it might be somebody else that has wondered into your yard, that is why we are very adamant about ladder removal and having all the safety devices in place.”

When it comes to swimming in open water, lakes or rivers, never swim alone, make sure to know the weather and water conditions, wear life jackets, swim parallel to the shore, and have a plan in place for emergencies.
