Farm Rescue Marks Major Milestone While Helping Illinois Family

In 2023, Farm Rescue, a nonprofit organization that helps farm families going through crisis, spread its reach to include Illinois. This week the organization hit a major milestone on a farm in Illinois, 1,000 rescues.

Brad Pifer was impacted by an EF3 tornado that destroyed buildings, grain storage, and equipment earlier this spring. Farm Rescue provided equipment and volunteers to help bring in the family’s winter wheat crop

Dan Erdman from Farm Rescue says through the work of volunteers and donations, they are able to help families through troubling times.

“We can bring in equipment, volunteers that are trained to carry out fieldwork. We come in at a time of crisis to help plant, bale hay, harvest crops, feed livestock, commodity hauling, occasionally hay hauling- so a little bit of everything. It’s all there to provide a handout to those families in their time of need and to get them over the hump and through that one crisis and hopefully back in the field for the next season.”

Since being launched in 2005, Farm Rescue has helped families in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota.
