Mr. Jerry Smith, age 80, of Abingdon, Illinois passed away at 7:12 PM on June 3, 2023, at OSF St Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois.

Jerry was born on March 17, 1943, in Akin Illinois, the son of Hollis and Beatrice (Corn) Smith. Jerry is survived by his daughter, Kerry Johnson, his son, Brandon Smith, his step son, Robbie Schisler, his grandson, Josh Johnson, his two brothers, Dean Smith, and Ray Smith, and his sister, Donna Craig. Jerry is preceded in death by his mother and father.

Jerry was most known around Abingdon for not only his friends made while working at Skeeter’s bar, but also his extensive fandom of Elvis Presley and love of his cats Ricky, Lucy, and Pepper. Jerry’s love of Elvis’s music best being showcased in his home, filled with Elvis decorum. In Jerry’s free time he could be found either fishing, or gardening. He had taken much pride in his gardening and lawn care skills. And as many people could agree, knew a mower better than the back of his own hand.

Cremation has been accorded. No services are to be held. Hinchliff-Pearson-West of Galesburg is honored to assist the family. Memorials may be made to either the Knox County Humane Society, or Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
