Mr. Richard D. Johnson, age 72, of Abingdon, Passed away in his home at 1:10 PM on June 6, 2023.

Richard was born January 5, 1951, in Cash Arkansas to Paul Lee and Dovie Jean (Sharp) Johnson.

Richard is survived by his daughter Candy (Tony) Woodward, his son Shawn (Joy) Johnson, his siblings Carol Sue (Billy) Stone, Cherie Swan, and Danny (Ladawn) Johnson, ten grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Richard is preceded in death by his wife Susan Johnson, his parents, his siblings Paul Lee Johnson Jr., Shirley Jean Simpson, and his beloved dog Pugsley.

Richard was known best for cruising around town in his 1999 Ford Mustang. He could be mostly be found in his spare time working on it, taking great pride in keeping it in tip top condition. If Richard wasn’t in his garage he was more than likely spending time putting together models cars, or playing his various guitars and singing his favorite songs. Richard had served in the United States Army from 1973 to 1975.

As per Richard’s wishes, cremation has been accorded. A celebration of life will be held on June 24, 2023 at the Abingdon Legion at 1:00 PM. A graveside service with military rites will be held for family and friends at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.h-p-w.com.
