Winning Isn’t Everything For Young Showman Ali Hinkes

There is more to showing livestock at the local fair than just winning. At the Knox County Fair, young showman Ali Hinkes won champion and reserve champion titles for her gilts and barrows, but she says winning is not her favorite part of the contest.

“I love showing pigs because I get to see my friends that I haven’t seen in a long time. And I love showing them cuz it’s just fun to go out in the ring. It doesn’t matter to me how I do but I just love being able to get out and to the ring with my pigs.”

Hinkes will be entering the 4th grade at Costa Catholic Academy. She says that she loves getting to go down to the pig barn to walk her pigs.

“Some of them are a little crazy. It may not look like that, but it’s only because we’ve trained them to not be so crazy.”

This year she brought six pigs to the Knox County Jr and Open Show; Sweetie, Tom, Timmy, Marshmallow, and Addy.
