Big River Resources President/CEO David Zimmerman Says Rains Came at the Right Time for Local Corn Crop

Share

As the corn crop is beginning to pollinate, Big River Resources President and CEO David Zimmerman says the recent rains came just in time:

“Now we have a long way to go here, but we still have all of July and August weather. There is some talk that maybe the row size on these ears of corn might be a little bit down based on the dryness in mid-June, so we really need to fill out this ear of corn in July and August. We are comfortable that we will have a crop this fall, we don’t know what size, but up until now we have been grinding the old crop. We have been getting a good supply. We had a really good local crop as you know last year, and that has been very helpful. We have been very competitive in the corn space versus some western plants that had a little more trouble with their crop, but we have been running the plants hard.”

Zimmerman states 150 million bushels of corn is used to produce ethanol at Big River Resources’ eight facility locations.
