Galesburg Residents Sustain Amputations Due to Fireworks

On 07/04/23 at approximately 1355hrs Knox County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 1100 block of Bridgeport Rd for a report of two individuals who sustained hand and finger amputations as a result of lighting off a mortar.

Victims were a 22 year old of rural Maquon and a 21 year old of Galesburg. Both were taken to OSF St. Francis in Peoria via Life Flight for their injuries. Injuries are considered to be non-life threatening. An investigation is ongoing.

Other responding agencies included London Mills Fire, Maquon Fire, Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, and Farmington Police Department .The Knox County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind citizens of the dangers of fireworks.
