Share

Independence Day is here. Monmouth Police Chief Joe Switzer reminds residents fireworks are illegal in Illinois:

“The state of Illinois is one of three states in the nation that strictly prohibits various different fireworks. The main ones that are available to Illinois residents, that are legal in Illinois, sparklers, some ground smoke bombs, and like the little snakes, basically that is what you are limited too in the state of Illinois. I saw a report, there were over 200 emergency room visits in the state of Illinois last year because of fireworks related injuries.”

Chief Switzer also states extra patrol cars will be on the City Streets keeping an eye out for cell phone usage, seatbelt violations, and driving under the influence.
