State Senator Neil Anderson is announcing an expansion of state resources through a state disaster proclamation for Hancock and McDonough Counties following severe weather and a derecho that brought extensive damage across parts of the 47th District.

“Communities across the district were hit extremely hard and while I had the opportunity to see the damage firsthand, this proclamation is a great step in freeing up critical resources our impacted communities need,” said Senator Anderson. “My office has fielded several calls pertaining to state assistance from constituents impacted by this storm and we have been in contact with IEMA on where assistance is needed.”

The Illinois Emergency Management Agency alongside the Office of Homeland Security works with local governments to assess the impacts of the storm. Communities impacted by the storm may be eligible for Community Development Block Grant Disaster funds through Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

“Not only were properties damaged, there was an extensive amount of time where the power was out and additional outside crews were called-in to help with restoration,” said Senator Anderson. “We have a duty as a state and legislature to provide state resources in a time of emergency like this one and I commend the state for stepping in to help local communities.”

The disaster proclamation which also includes six other Illinois counties was put into effect immediately.
