Bernadine Marie Fleisher, age 92 of Galesburg passed on to her heavenly home, Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at her home.

She was born March 9, 1931 in Galesburg, Illinois to Lewis Stephen Peterson and Virgina King Peterson. She was raised by Eddie and Ethel Morris. She married Dr. Homer L. Fleisher, Jr. on April 7, 1950 in Galesburg, Illinois. He preceded her in death July 29, 2004 and son, Rich, who died February 14, 2023.

Surviving are three sons, Dr. Homer (Jean) Fleisher, III of Conway, Arkansas, Thomas (Becky) Fleisher of Gilson and William (Cathy) Fleisher of Galesburg; daughter-in-law, Michelle Fleisher of Knoxville; seven grandchildren, Michael (Lindsay) Fleisher of Benton, Arkansas, Christin (Chris) Rippy and James (Amelia) Fleisher of Conway, Arkansas, Andy (Linley) Fleisher and Amy (Greg) Larson both of Knoxville, Troy (Mary) Fleisher of Knoxville and Tara (Ryan) Snyder of Manheim, Pennsylvania; and sixteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Bernadine graduated from Galesburg High School in 1949 and attended the University of Illinois. She was a member of the Knox County Fair Board for 25 years. She was the National President of the National Council of Pollettes for 2 years. She served three terms on the board of the Knox-Galesburg Symphony. She was a member of the Knoxville City Council and served as the acting mayor. Bernadine was a member of the Maquon United Methodist Church. She was the Office Manager for Galesburg Anesthesiology for 17 years, retiring in 2001.

Visitation will be from 1-3 PM, Sunday, August 13, 2023 at Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory, Knoxville. Funeral services will follow visitation at 3 PM. Graveside services will be 10 AM, Monday, August 14, 2023 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg. Rev. Kris McMillan will officiate. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory, Knoxville will be assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Maquon United Methodist Church or the Galesburg Rescue Mission.
