…EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM CDT FRIDAY…

* WHAT…Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 115.

* WHERE…Portions of west central Illinois, southeast Iowa and northeast Missouri.

* WHEN…Until 8 PM CDT Friday.

* IMPACTS…Extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.

Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

Dangerous heat and humidity will continue across the area today and tonight with heat indices of 110 to 115. Excessive heat warnings continue for the entire area.

There is a low risk of thunderstorms late this afternoon and evening. There is a marginal risk of severe storms east of the Mississippi. If storms would develop, damaging winds would be the severe risk.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…FRIDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY

On Friday dangerous heat and humidity will be seen along and south of a Fairfield, Iowa to Galesburg, Illinois line. Heat indices of 100 to 110 are expected.

There is a low risk of thunderstorms Friday into Friday night. A marginal risk of severe storms is along and south of a line from Ottumwa, Iowa to Macomb, Illinois. If storms develop, damaging winds would be the severe risk.
