Harry DeWayne “Smitty” Smith, 70, of Galesburg, Illinois, died peacefully at home, Friday, August 4, 2023 at 5:18 a.m.

Harry was born September 26, 1952 in Galesburg, the son of Harry Edgar and Ethel Juanita (Roberts) Smith.  He married Karna Goehl on February 25, 1978 in Galesburg.  They later divorced in 2004.

Harry is survived by one son, Levi Smith of Galesburg; two daughters, Missy (Jeff) Young of Galesburg and Sara (Frank) Giardina of Buffalo Grove, Illinois; and five grandchildren, Jonah, Olivia “Ace”, Anara, Durst, and Briar.  He is also survived by two brothers, Allen (Debbie) Smith of Galesburg and Rodger (Sharon) Smith of Kennesaw, Georgia; and his girlfriend, Jo Ellen Waymoth of Galesburg.  Harry was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Joshua Rash.

Harry retired from Gates Rubber Co. as a maintenance Electrician.  He loved cars and motorcycles, especially Harley Davidson’s.  He enjoyed listening to karaoke, dancing, and spending time with his family.  Harry was an avid Chicago Bears fan and had a knack for answering questions on Jeopardy.  In his younger years Harry enjoyed bowling.

Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 11, 2023 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.   Cremation will follow the visitation.  No funeral services are planned.  Memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of Watson Thomas Funeral Home, 1849 N.
