Starting September 18th, whether a defendant will be detained before trial will not depend on the size of their bank account but rather on the level of danger they pose to the community, as determined by the SAFE-T Act. This legislation significantly changes the way law enforcement will conduct arrests and nearly every step of the criminal prosecution process. Implementing the Act in Knox County poses several challenges for us in law enforcement. To address these challenges and to improve community awareness, the State’s Attorney’s Office is providing the following training via Zoom.
August 3, 2023: KCSAO Staff
August 10, 2023: Courthouse staff
August 11, 2023: Law Enforcement Training Session #1
August 18, 2023: Jail Administration/Court Security
August 25, 2023 Law Enforcement Training Session #2
September 1, 2023: Law Enforcement Training Session #3
