Louise Doney, 78, of Galesburg, died at 6:25 a.m. Monday, August 14, 2023, at home.
She was born January 19, 1945, in Galesburg, the daughter of Hugh M. and Margaret C. (Bower) Unger. She married Lewis M. Doney on March 3, 1972, in Galesburg.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Lewis; two sons, Michael (Kathy) Doney and David Doney, both of Galesburg; three grandchildren, Ashlie, Alyssa, and Logan Doney; two brothers, Charles (Susan) Unger and Neill (Jan) Unger, both of Galesburg; a sister-in-law, Carol Unger of Knoxville; a brother-in-law, Rollie Potts of East Moline; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Frank Unger; and a sister, Joan Potts.
After graduating from Galesburg High School in 1963, she worked at the former Galesburg State Research Hospital for one year before enrolling in nursing school at Moline Public. She graduated in 1967 as a registered nurse. She worked as an OB nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital for 30 years. After retiring, she continued to work there as a PRN until 2017.
Louise was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, where she served on many committees and sang in the church choir. She was a creative person who was an avid scrapbooker, enjoyed making ceramics, cross-stitch, and most recently diamond dots.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, August 24, 2023, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 25, 2023, at the chapel. Rev. Debra Epley will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
