Mary Joanne Hawkins, 77, of Monmouth, IL passed away at 5:46 pm, Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Courtyard Estates, Monmouth, IL.

Joanne was born December 21, 1945 in Chariton, IA, the daughter of Leland and Neva Mary (Boozell) Adams.  She was raised and educated in Chariton, IA, graduating from Chariton High School in 1964.

Joanne married Roger Hawkins in Chariton, IA on November 1, 1964 and he died September 25, 2009.

Joanne worked as a custodian at Monmouth College from 1986-2005.  She enjoyed scrapbooking, walking, yoga, swimming and spending time with her grandkids.

She was a member of the First Christian Church of Monmouth and the Monmouth VFW Auxiliary.

Survivors include her son, David (Erica) Hawkins of Abingdon, IL and daughter Linda (Shane) Jones of Monmouth; her brothers, Donald (Phyllis) Adams of Norwalk, IA, Gene (Tula) Adams of Chariton, IA and Gary Adams of Omaha, NE; 7 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister-in-law, Verla Adams.

Cremation has been accorded.    A celebration of Joanne’s life will be announced at a later date. A private family burial will take place at Warren County Memorial Park. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association and sent to the funeral home.  McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
