Story by Kadin Rogers

The Monmouth College Fighting Scots football team is just about ready to kick-off their 2023 campaign. Monmouth will open up their season on the road in Waverly, Iowa, as they take on perennial power Wartburg College at 7:00 PM on Saturday. Wartburg has gotten the best of the Scots in their recent matchups, as Monmouth’s last win against the Knights came back in 2018. Over the past few months Fighting Scots Head Coach Chad Braun has gotten to see more and more of his 2023 squad in live practices. Braun says he has liked what he has saw out of his unit over the summer, and is excited to finally travel to Wartburg with as little injuries as possible.

The Scots will be navigating without several top players from last year, including 2022 leading rusher Devin Lawrence, second-leading receiver Jake Uryasz, and defensive standout Korbyn Personett, who racked up numerous awards in the Midwest Conference during his tenure at Monmouth. However, the Scots will still return a bulk of their starters from last year, including 4 out of 5 players on the offensive line, 2022 leading receiver Nate Thornton, fifth-year senior linebacker Jermaih Glenn Louis Charles, and starting quarterback Carter Boyer. Once again this season, we’ll have every Fighting Scot football game on your home for Scots football AM 1330/FM 94.1 WRAM and live online at radiomonmouth.com. The pregame show for Monmouth and Wartburg will hit the air at 6:40 on Saturday night. Kickoff is set for 7:00.
