Monmouth’s Bobby Downs Heading to Portugal to represent the US for Kick-Boxing Championship

Share

Monmouth-native Bobby Downs has had a plethora of success in his over 10 year fighting career. He’s won numerous titles in mixed martial arts and kickboxing associations. He might have arguably won his most illustrious tournament to date in May. Bobby won the 195 pound weight class at the World Association of Kickboxing Organizations, or WAKO, National Championships in Nashville. That victory will send Bobby to Portugal in November as a part of the United States National Team at the WAKO World Championships.

After numerous knee surgeries derailed his high school basketball career at Monmouth-Roseville High School, Bobby turned to mixed martial arts fighting. Early in his career, Downs won numerous championship belts in MMA fighting in various organizations around the Midwest but the loss of his beloved mother, Angel, in March of 2022 sent Bobby into a dark space in his life. Now 32 years old, he has since picked himself up and is back on track in his fighting career.

With the victory in Nashville, Downs will now head to Portugal for the WAKO World Championships in November. The pressure of representing the United States is not lost on Downs.
