Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending Aug 27, 2023:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior boys soccer player, Ozzy Carmona. Ozzy had the tournament of a lifetime this past weekend in the Peking Invitational. He either assisted or scored on all seven Titan goals in their tournament championship run. Ozzy scored five goals and assisted on the other two goals, including a hat trick in a victory over Illini Bluffs.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is senior football player, Tony Rodriguez. Tony helped the Red Storm to their first victory over Mercer County since 2007. Besides four tackles on defense, he rushed for 108 yards on 19 carries for an average of 5.7 yards per rush. Tony’s touchdown in the 4th quarter sealed the 14-8 win.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is junior boys golfer, Ethan Nichols. Ethan has had a very promising beginning to his season. His 40 was the second lowest score of all individuals at a quad meet at Gibson Woods to start the year. Ethan’s 44 at his next meet at Midland Golf Course was low enough to make him the meet medalist.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is sophomore boys golfer, Alex Foutch. Besides helping the Tornado boys team to its first win in program history in the season opener against Deer Creek-Mackinaw, Alex posted the lowest individual score in the A-Town boys golf program’s short history. At the United Red Storm Open at Gibson Woods Golf Course, he carded an 18-hole score of 84 to place 7th in the tournament.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is senior volleyball player, Kiarra Kilgore. Kiarra’s overall athleticism filled up the stat sheet in the season’s opening week. Her numbers were even better in Silver Streak wins. Kiarra posted four kills and nine assists in a win over West Central. Her all-around game was on display at the Quincy Early Bird Tournament where she totaled six kills, ten assists and three blocks in a win over Winchester.
