Betty Joyce Schrodt, 90, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, September 21, 2023 at her daughter’s home with her family by her side.

Betty was born November 17, 1932 in Bushnell, Illinois, the daughter of Walter Maurice and Haidee Belle (Wilson) Chatterton. Betty was reared and educated in Bushnell, graduating from high school in 1951. Betty married Richard Keith Schrodt on June 1, 1952 in Bushnell. He preceded her in death on July 9, 1999.

Left to cherish her memory is one son, Ronald (Brenda) Schrodt of Springfield, Illinois; two daughters, Carma Doan of Galesburg and Phyllis (Ed) Bond of Normal, Illinois. Betty is also survived by nine grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 66 years; and two brothers.

Betty worked at Walmart for many years, retiring in 2010. She loved flowers and had a house full of African Violets. Betty was a longtime member of East Main Street Congregational Church in Galesburg where she was active for many years until the churches closure. Betty helped with Girl Scouts when her daughters were growing up.

Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 29, 2023 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be at Meridian Cemetery, Berwick Twp. Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross.
