Upon arrival, fire crews encountered heavy smoke in the third-floor hallway. Battalion Chief Dave Farrell established command and the Central Station Fire Crew located and quickly extinguished a kitchen fire in an apartment on the third floor. The Fremont and Brooks Station Fire Crews worked to remove smoke from all of the apartments on the third floor.

One occupant had safely exited the apartment at the time of the fire. The interior of the apartment sustained heavy smoke and fire damage. No injuries were reported. Preliminary damage estimates are at $7,000.

An emergency callback of off-duty fire personnel was initiated to provide emergency coverage for the City. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental, due to cooking, by Galesburg Fire Department Investigators.
