Evelyn Doris Volz, 68, of Monmouth, passed away at 6:50 pm on Monday, September 18, 2023, at St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, IL.
She was born January 31, 1955 in Effingham, IL the daughter of Harold and Avis (Rice) Schlicker. She was raised and educated in Unionville, MI, graduating from Unionville-Sebewaing High School in 1973. She received her bachelor’s degree in Social Work in 1977 from Eastern Michigan University.
Evelyn married Kurt Volz in Unionville, MI on August 7, 1976 and he survives.
She dedicated her life to serving others, beginning her career with Head Start in Monmouth. She also worked for Lutheran Social Services in Galesburg before working as a Social Worker at Community Memorial Hospital. She worked as a Supervisor at Warren Achievement Center in Monmouth, assisting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Eveyln was an active member of the First Lutheran Church in Monmouth. She enjoyed reading a good book and gardening. She was very creative and enjoyed building and remodeling projects. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Kurt; her children, Nathan (Joey) Volz of Lake Wales, FL, Kathleen (Angela) Bradley-Volz of Salisbury, NC, Laura (Kirk) Thirtyacre of Bloomington, IL and Caitlin (Ethan) McIntyre of Macomb, IL; and her four grandchildren, Tyler Volz, Charlotte Volz, Lillie Bradley-Volz and Sophie Bradley-Volz; her sister, Janice Anderson of Chapel Hill, NC; 3 brothers, David Schlicker of Underwood, MN, Arden Schlicker of Heber Springs, AR and Richard Schlicker of Reed City, MI; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brothers, Donald Schlicker and Melvin Schlicker.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be given to the First Lutheran Church of Monmouth or the American Cancer Society and sent to the funeral home.
