Joan M. Markham, 90, of Galesburg, died on September 21, 2023, at Seminary Manor in Galesburg.

She was born June 25, 1933, in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Leland and Ethel Still. Joan married Phil Crouch and they had three children. She later married Ed Swanson and then Leroy Markham, both preceding her in death.

She is survived by sons; Terry W. Crouch of Lake Mary, Florida, and Gary Mark (Liz) Crouch of Galesburg; daughter; Cynthia (Gregg Barker) Crouch of Longmont, Colorado; five grandchildren, Christin Crouch of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Julie (Kelley) MacFarland of Longwood, Florida, Jacob (Valerie Franklin) Crouch of Burlington, Iowa, Rachel (Fabricio) Crouch-Almeida of Kansas City, Kansas, and Grace Crouch of Chicago; great grandchildren, Keira and Nia Aloba, Livia, Natalia, and Carlos Crouch-Almeida, Owen and Sydney MacFarland, Matthew Galvin and Ayden and Jayce Franklin; step grandchildren, Tammy (Ernie) Davis of Cameron, Kim Edwards of Alexis, and Carrie (Scott) Leath of Galesburg; step great grandchildren, Kendal and Alexa; stepchildren and grandchildren from her marriage to Leroy Markham; sister, Carol Hanson of Monmouth; sister-in-law, Lucy Still of Monmouth; and brother-in-law, Bill Anderson of Colorado.

Joan was preceded in death by three spouses, Phil Crouch, Ed Swanson, and Leroy Markham; one daughter-in-law, Vicky Crouch; her parents; brothers, Roger Still and Lauren Still; sister, Mary Anderson; and great granddaughter, Kayla Crouch-Almeida.

Joan graduated from Galesburg High School and Carl Sandburg College Nursing Program. She worked at Farmers and Mechanics Bank, both Galesburg hospitals, in private home health care, and School District #205 in food service. In 1990, she opened Markham’s Family Restaurant with her husband Leroy Markham.

Joan was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Galesburg for over 60 years. She loved reading, sewing, playing cards, and spending time with her family and friends. She will be dearly missed.

Visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, September 29, 2023, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or OSF Hospice.
