Louis W. Linnenburger, 93 of Galesburg, died at 7:45 p.m. Sunday, September 3, 2023, at Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville.
He was born Wednesday, July 9, 1930, in Hannibal, Missouri, the son of Herbert and Bertha (McFarland) Linnenburger. He married Edna Faye Taylor on May 27, 1950, in Palmyra, Missouri. She preceded him in death on May 12, 2009, after nearly 59 years of marriage.
He is survived by two sons, Michael (Barbara) Linnenburger and Steven Linnenburger, both of Fort Worth, Texas; a daughter, Gayle Williams of Knoxville; eight grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and a brother, Kenneth (Helen) Linnenburger of Missouri. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gregory Linnenburger; son-in-law, Kevin Williams; and two brothers, Paul and Wayne.
Louie started working for the C.B.&Q. Railroad in the Bridge and Building Department in Quincy. He later transferred to Galesburg, working 35 years as a switchman for the Burlington Northern Railroad before retiring in 1992.
Louie was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. He enjoyed bird watching, gardening, and watching Westerns and M.A.S.H. He will be remembered for his beautiful rose gardens, which are in bloom now.
He served in the Army National Guard while living in Missouri.
Visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, September 9, 2023, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services of Galesburg. Funeral will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Steven Sommerer officiating. Burial with military honors will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorials contributions may be made to Mt.
