Mrs. Mildred Lee Allen, 87, of Galesburg, Illinois passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at Marigold Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
Millie was born December 20, 1935, in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of William Glenn and Mildred Ann (Scott) Campbell. She married Joseph Pecharich and later married Wayne Allen on September 8, 1973, in Rock Island, Illinois. He preceded her in death after 49 years of marriage on March 17, 2022.
She is survived by her five children, Joseph (Jan Puthoff) Pecharich of Celina, Ohio, Theresa (the late Joseph) Hagerty of Wataga, Illinois, Constance (Thomas) Warsaw of Mesa, Arizona, Paul Pecharich of Sandwich, Illinois and Patricia (Robert) Engel of Jacksonville, Florida; one brother, Gary (Donna) Campbell of Blandinsville, Illinois; one sister, Barbara Robinson of Columbia, South Carolina; ten grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, William, John, James and Bob Campbell and three sisters, Maribelle Vice, Wila Gibbermeyer and Margaret Carmody.
Millie attended Abingdon schools, graduating from Knoxville High School in 1953. She worked for JCPenney Department Store for over twenty years. Millie was a proud member of the Col. Jonathan Latimer Abingdon Chapter NSDAR and a member of the Abingdon Pottery Club. Millie took pride in being a Master Gardener and was known for her amazing backyard and had participated in several local garden tours. She and Wayne also offered their talent to the flowers displayed at the Galesburg Public Library and the Bridgeway offices. Millie volunteered as a Reading Buddy at Nielson Elementary School for many years. She also was an animal supporter for the Knox County Humane Society. Millie enjoyed being part of beautifying Galesburg and being involved in the community. She was a recipient of the Galesburg Noon Rotary Club Outstanding Vocational and Community Award. Millie was a collector of a variety of things from marbles, dolls, bears and antiques. In her earlier years she enjoyed boating on the river with friends and family.
Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 pm Monday, October 2, 2023, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Memorial Services will follow at the chapel at 2:00 pm with Deacon Michael Crummer officiating. A private family burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.
