Monmouth College’s music department will take audience members on a journey through America’s heartland when it presents its annual Homecoming concert Oct. 7.

The College’s Chorale, Chamber Choir and Concert Choir will all sing at the event, which will be directed by music faculty member Thomas Clark, with Solee Lee-Clark as accompanist. Free and open to the public, the concert will be presented at 7:30 p.m. in the Kasch Performance Hall of Dahl Chapel and Auditorium.

“As they discover the diverse and soul-stirring sounds of our nation, we hope the audience is moved by the rich melodies that echo from the heartland of America,” said Clark.

One of the selections from the concert is “South Dakota Shadows Suite” by acclaimed American composer Jackson Berkey. A string quartet will join the singers for that performance.

Extra musical event

At 2 p.m. the following day, Oct. 8, Lee-Clark will present an organ recital in the Kasch Performance Hall, featuring the music of William Byrd, G. H. Handel and Franz Liszt. Following her recital, a post-concert discussion on the renovation of Dahl Chapel’s organ will be held, led by the technician who worked on the project, Randall E. Karstens.
