Mrs. Phyllis Ann Swiler, 88, of Galesburg passed away at 1:00 am, Thursday August 31, 2023, at Knox County Nursing Home.
Phyllis was born April 9, 1935, in Galesburg the daughter of Andrew and Lila (Moberg) Scott. She married John Swiler on June 17, 1960. He preceded her in death January 1982.
She is survived by her children, Michael (Joy) Scott of Henderson, Illinois and Amy (Rick) Brooks of Savannah Georgia; her sister, Carolyn Ogden of Moline, Illinois; five grandchildren, Meghan Scott, Andrew Scott, Daniel Scott, Gage Womack and Garrett Womack and two great grandchildren, Braxton Lauerman and Tobias Scott. Phyllis is also survived by her special friends, Dee and Carol who stood by her through thick and thin. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
Phylis graduated from Alexis High School in 1954. She went on to work for Monmouth Hospital and the Moosehart Children’s Home for over 25 years as a house parent. Phyllis had a caring heart and volunteered for several years for the Galesburg Rescue Mission. She had a love for traveling and enjoyed many train and bus trips with her friends. She was a faithful member of the Faith Baptist Church.
Visitation is scheduled from 10:00-11:00 am Thursday, September 28, 2023, at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Galesburg Chapel. Services will follow 11:00 am at the chapel with Rev. Curt Lipe officiating. The burial will be in Alexis Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Galesburg Rescue Mission or Faith Baptist Church.
