United Red Storm Girls Golf Qualifies for Sectional Tournament

It was the girl’s turn on the course for high school regional tournaments yesterday. The United Red Storm girls were trying to do what the Red Storm boy’s team did on Wednesday….qualify for Monday’s sectional meet. Both squads claimed Lincoln Trail Conference team titles earlier this season, and now both will golf on Monday for a chance to go to the IHSA state finals. The United Red Storm girls finished in 2nd place by one stroke to Rockridge at Thursday’s class 1A regional at Midland Golf Course in Kewanee. It’s the 3rd time United has finished one shot behind a strong Rockridge squad in the past 10 days. Rockridge shot a 374, with United carding a 375. ROWVA/Williamsfield will also advance to Monday’s sectional at Wolf Creek Golf Course in Pontiac. Rockridge standout Hannah Graves was the individual champ with a 78. United’s Meredith Yung’s score of 89 was good enough for 3rd. Her teammates, Jalyn Wallace with a 93 and Paige Christianson’s 95, were also in the top-10, placing 5th and 7th respectively. Leighton Trego’s 11th place finish 98 rounded out the United scoring.

Knoxville will have a pair of golfers advancing, individually. Madison Hilgenburg with a 101 and Piper Lewis’ 103 were in the top-10 golfers not on an advancing team. The Macomb Bomber girls were at the 1A regional at Rolling Greens. Macomb took 2nd as a team and will advance to the sectional round. Josie Calvert’s 93 was good enough for 8th to lead Macomb.

The Galesburg Silver Streak girls were at the class 2A regional at Lake Bracken in Galesburg. Galesburg was 7th but will have Cora Johnson and Abby Phillips moving on individually. Johnson’s 93 was 7th best and Phillips 97 was 22nd.
