United Red Storm Boys Golf Team, West Central, A-Town Individuals Qualify for Sectional Tournament

The first fall high school sports postseason got underway on Wednesday as boys golf regionals were played around the state. A class 1A regional was played at Valley View Golf Club in Cambridge. Several Monmouth-area teams were involved. Sherrard’s 338, Ridgewood’s 356 and United’s 357 were enough to qualify all three schools for the Sherrard Sectional at Fyre Lake Golf Club in Sherrard on Monday. Abingdon-Avon was 7th with a 380 and West Central was 9th with a 386. Elmwood’s Tanner Wake was the individual champ, shooting a 78. The scorers that led the way for United’s 3rd place team score was Luke Jungmann’s 7th place score of 83. Carson Horner also shot an 83 for 8th, Aiden Martin was 27th with a 94. and Ian Leffler also shot a 94 for 33rd. Speaking on the WRAM Morning Show this morning, United Athletic Director Jeremy Sharp says the school is excited by the golf teams success, and is looking forward to getting even more teams into deep playoff runs as the 2023 season continues.

Monmouth-area individuals that qualified included West Central’s Ethan Nichols carded an 82 for 5th overall. Abingdon-Avon’s Alex Foutch shot a 90 for 19th. Those scores were among the top-10 individuals that were not already on a qualifying team.
