Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending Sept. 17, 2023:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior volleyball player, Elise Blaesing. Elise has been a big part of the great success the Titans have had in the first half of the season and was an even bigger part of the Judy Richmond Tournament title her team recently won. She led the Titans in assists in the four wins during the tourney with 37. Elise also served for 30 points, including four aces, and smashed 14 kills.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is junior girls golfer, Leighton Trego. For the 3rd straight year, the Red Storm girls won the Lincoln Trail Conference championship and for the 3rd straight year, Leighton placed in the top-10 individually. After a 6th place in 2021 and a 9th place last year, she carded 93 at Midland Golf Course. That earned her a 2nd place medal, her highest finish to date.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is freshman volleyball player and girls swimmer, Rebecca Hinshaw. Rebecca has been an integral part of the recent resurgence of the Heat volleyball program. She filled up the stat sheet last week in a pair of wins, handing out 8 assists and hustling her way to 10 digs. Rebecca, who swims as a co-op with Monmouth-Roseville, also had a pair of first place finishes in the pool in a recent meet against bigger schools Galesburg and Macomb.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is senior girls tennis players, Abby and Madison Springer. These two girls combined to earn the highest place for Galesburg at the Silver Streak Invitational at Art Fish Courts. Abby and Madison placed 4th overall at #1 doubles. They are gearing up for a run at an all-conference spot in October’s Western Big Six Championships.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is junior girls golfer, Carly Powell. Carly was the lone representative for the Tornadoes at the Lincoln Trail Conference Railsplitter Championship Tournament last week at Midland Golf Course in Kewanee. She placed 40th in the tournament. Carly joined the Tornado boy’s team that set the 9-hole team record at Twin Oaks in Blandinsville last week, as well.
