Abingdon-Avon Football Coach Rick Quinn Reflects on First Season in the Lincoln Land Conference

Share

The Abingdon-Avon Tornadoes football team ended their season this past Friday with a 43-23 home loss to the ROWVA-Williamsfield Cougars. The loss for A-Town brings their final record on the season to 2-7, with the Tornadoes starting 0-5 in their first 5 games, but closing out the season strong with a 2-2 record in their final four contests. In their first year in the brand new Lincoln Land Conference, the Tornadoes finished with a 2-6 conference record, holding wins over the United Red Storm and Havana Ducks. The Lincoln Land-Small School Division was an overall very tough division to play in this season as four teams, Stark County (8-0), Annawan/Wethersfield (7-1), ROWVA/Williamsfield (6-2), and Princeville (5-3) all finished with winning records in conference play. Appearing on the WRAM Morning Show this morning, Tornadoes Head Coach Rick Quinn discussed how Lincoln Land teams in both divisions might do in postseason action, stating that each team in the very competitive conference has a shot to make some noise in the IHSA playoffs.

As mentioned numerous Lincoln Land teams in both divisions will be in action this weekend either hosting playoff games or going on the road. The Small School Division was won by Stark County, who finished a perfect 9-0 and earned a 2 seed in the 1A bracket, while the Large School Division was won by 8-1 Farmington with the Farmers grabbing a 6 seed in the 2A bracket.
