Earl D. Seitz, age 81, of Gladstone, IL., passed away in the comforts of his home on October 19, 2023. Earl was born November 2, 1941 in Gladstone, Illinois, and is the son of Earl and Grace Bielser Seitz. Earl was raised in Gladstone, where he attended a one room schoolhouse that later transitioned into the Gladstone school. Earl married his best friend, Daisey Connolly on December 4, 1965, in Biggsville, IL. They enjoyed over 57 years together, where they had two children, nine grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. Earl worked for the C & E furniture store when he first married Daisey, then Burlington Basket, and later worked at the Union School District in Biggsville, Illinois for several years, from where he retired. He enjoyed seeing his grandchildren while working at the school. After retirement, Earl loved to mow for his community- the church, baseball field, and parks. Baseball was Earl’s sport, and he especially loved coaching Gladstone’s peewee team, little league team, and pony league. He played fastpitch, and he was the pitcher. Earl enjoyed Sunday dinners with his family, he loved baseball-especially the Cubs (they won the world series on his birthday) and Bears, he enjoyed mowing and gardening, and attending his grandchildrens’ school events. He enjoyed watching westerns and comedies in his chair, and he adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Earl is survived by his wife, Daisey Seitz, two sons- Wayne Seitz and Ron Seitz (Julie Seitz), both of Gladstone, Illinois, and his nine grandchildren- Janee Seitz, Jessica Seitz (Kyle Hammel), Marke Seitz, Payton Seitz, Miranda Seitz (Kole Perkins), Kahlen Seitz, Alica Shullaw (Zach Shullaw), Amanda Fischer (Matthew Fischer), Alex Miller, and several great grandchildren. He also is survived by his sister Margie Curry (Mike Curry) of Nashville, Illinois, and several nieces and nephews that he loved very much. Preceding Earl in death are his parents- Earl Fredrick Seitz and Grace MaryAnn Seitz (Bielser), his brothers- Dwight Seitz and Lawrence Seitz, and his sisters- Virginia Law, Florence “Flo” Stewart, and Shirley Link.
A memorial service and burial of his cremated remains is planned on Thursday October 26, 2023 at 11:00 am at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. His family plans visitation from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the funeral home prior to the memorial service. Interment of his ashes will be in the Oquawka Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established for the West Central Girls High School Softball. Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka is in charge of his care.
