The Galesburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 254 and 266 Ohio Ave. October 26, 2023, at 12:12 p.m. The response included all three stations and the 11 personnel on duty. Upon arrival, personnel encountered two detached garages on fire. Battalion Chief Dave Farrell established command, and access was gained from an alleyway behind the residences to attack the fire. The Brooks Street Station crew utilized multiple attack lines to extinguish the fires. The Central Station crews established a water supply and assisted in extinguishing the fires.

The garages were determined to be a total loss. There was no damage to any other structures and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
