The Jamieson Community Center Food Pantry is currently averaging 450 visits a month, which is 82% above the year to date average from last year. Meanwhile, Executive Director Nancy Mowen informs the cost of food from the River Bend Food Bank has increased 50% from the previous year and shares the greatest needs in the pantry to serve the community:
“I am going to really encourage people if they would like to donate food to watch for sales. With the quantity of people we are seeing, if you find a good deal on something, buy a lot of it and donate that. As we go into the winter months, things like soup and chili are really welcomed for families; cereal, think staples, we do not want things that are high in sugar, so we are looking for things with nutritional value because we want to help people with food security. Milk, eggs, and bread those are all things that we definitely can distribute, if people want to donate that.”
The annual Freezing for Food event at Save A Lot Food Stores in Monmouth, benefiting the Jamieson Community Center and the Roseville Helping Hands Food Pantry will be held November 29th and 30th and Friday, December 1st.
