With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of John G. Day on October 23, 2023. Born March 30, 1974, in Peoria, Illinois, he was an extraordinary man whose memory will be cherished by all who knew him. A tragic motorcycle accident ended his life too soon.
John was born in Peoria, Illinois, the son of Randy and Kathi (Cagle) Carpenter. He is survived by his father, Randy Carpenter of Peoria, Illinois; his daughter, Lili Day, of Bloomington, Illinois; and sons, Zamiel Peterson, Monmouth, Illinois, Xavier Peterson, of Galesburg, Illinois, and Michael Henke, of Peoria, Illinois. He also held a special place in his heart for Felicia Peterson, his significant other of 16 years. John is one of seven brothers who survive him, including Ron (Wendi) Day, Randy Lee Day, Andy (Elizabeth) Day, Mason Carpenter, Alan Carpenter, and Nic Carpenter. He is also survived by his pride and joy, his only grandson, Jasper Rutledge.
John embodied the spirit of a true entrepreneur. For 25 years, he brought color and life to the world around him, tattooing people all over the United States, and has been the owner and operator of 2Days Tat2 in Galesburg for the past several years. His work was as unique and vivacious as he was, and his impact will continue to be visible on the skin and in the hearts of those he touched.
Above all else, John lived life with passion. He loved the thrill of the open road, spending countless hours cruising on his beloved motorcycle, and he found serenity in the calm of nature while fishing. He enjoyed flying drones and was continuously in the pursuit of a new hobby, forever enjoying the challenge of mastering a new skill.
John’s giving and kind nature carried on in his death as he was able to be an organ and tissue donor.
Cremation will be accorded. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg, Illinois. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com.
