The USDA has released its weekly Crop Progress and Conditions report for the week ending on October 8th. According to the report, 42 percent of corn and 44 percent of soybeans have been harvested in Illinois.

Going into harvest this year, many area farmers were hoping to get a good crop. Thad Tharp shared what he has been seeing in the field thus far.

“Harvest is going good, I don’t have many row crop acres so I’ll take the rain for fall pasture growth too. I’ve been in some combines, I’ve been helping some guys here and there and theirs been surprisingly good yields,” said Tharp. “There are some things out there you wish would be better but I’ve been talking to some coworkers throughout the Midwest and they’re not finding what we are finding. South Dakota, I’ve been hearing numbers 30 percent under typical. So, we are blessed to be in Warren County because we are growing a pretty good crop.”

He added that while it has been a dry year, it is a good year to get some tillage done.
