Monmouth Assistant Fire Chief Pat Spears Offers Halloween Fire Safety Tips

Share

As Halloween nears, the National Fire Protection Association is reminding everyone to keep fire safety a priority. When selecting a costume, avoid fabrics that trail behind and those made of linen or cotton as they can be very flammable. As for decorating, Assistant Fire Chief with the Monmouth Fire Department Pat Spears offers these tips:

“According to the Fire Marshall’s Office, there have been some Halloween fires over the years, being caused by candles in the Jack-o-lanterns, getting knocked over and the dry vegetation, dry materials causing those fires. We just want everybody to be careful if you are using candles in your pumpkins. They do make battery operated candles, so might be something to think about, especially right now, things are pretty dry.”

Trick or Treating for the City of Monmouth will be held Halloween night, Tuesday, October 31st, from 5:30 to 8 pm. The Monmouth Fire Department will also hold a Trunk or Treat event at Station 1 the same evening, offering hot dogs, chips, and water.
