Monmouth-Roseville 5th Grader Selected as Gwendolyn Brooks Youth Poetry Award Winner

5th Grader in the Monmouth-Roseville school district Gracelin Cassiday was selected as one of The Gwendolyn Brooks Youth Poetry Award winners and recently honored at M-R’s Board of Education meeting, shares Superintendent Ed Fletcher:

“Gracelin Cassiday, a student at Central Intermediate, she entered the 2023 Gwendolyn Brooks Youth Poetry Award competition. More than 810 poems were submitted and she was a winner for her grade level. Her poem was titled “A Girl Named Mia” and the subject was about her older sister. She is actually published now in that book and she came and read her poem to the Board and did a great job.”

Additionally, Superintendent Fletcher reports Parent-Teacher Conferences for the Monmouth-Roseville school district will take place the evenings of October 18th and 19th, with no school on Friday, October 20th.
