N. Jean Ray, 80, of Abingdon, died at 5:52 p.m. Wednesday, October 4, 2023, in the Knox County Nursing Home.

She was born November 1, 1942, in Abingdon, the daughter of Ross R. and Gertrude (Tuttle) Fielder. She married Robert E. Ray on February 16, 1968, in Avon. He preceded her in death June 6, 1995.

She is survived by her sister, Joan B. Tabb of Galesburg; several nieces and nephews; and her devoted friends, Christine and Danny Brunswig of Altona and their family. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Philip R. and Robert L. Fielder.

Jean began her working career at the Abingdon Brass Factory, where she worked for 13 years. After that, she went to work at ADM, where she was a grain inspector for many years before retiring in 2005.

She was a graduate of Abingdon High School. Jean and Bob were avid bowlers and Jean had served as a league officer. Jean also enjoyed helping on her cousin’s farm, especially at harvest time, and horseback riding.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, October 12, 2023, in the Avon Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. A celebration of Jean’s life will continue from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Abingdon American Legion. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services of Abingdon is honored to serve the family. Online condolences may be left on the funeral home’s website at www.h-p-w.com.
