At 6:01 P.M., Tuesday, October 10, 2023, the Macomb Fire Department was dispatched to a
residential structure fire in the 300 block of West Murray Street. The initial crew arrived on
scene at 6:03 P.M. and observed smoke and flames emitting from the rear of the structure.
Fire command initiated a request for all off-duty Macomb Firefighters. Crews made their way
to the rear of the house and began extinguishing the fire. The fire was deemed Under Control
at 6:36 P.M. Crews began ventilating the residence and addressing hot spots.
No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported.
A smoke alarm was present but was not sounding at the time of arrival.
Estimated loss at this time is approximately $35,000.
The cause of the fire is believed to have started in the kitchen and is under investigation by
the Macomb Fire Department.
Four on-duty Macomb Firefighters initially responded with an additional three off-duty
firefighters staged at the fire station. Thank you to the Macomb-McDonough County 911
center, Macomb Police Department, Ameren Illinois, City of Macomb Public Works, and
Lifeguard Ambulance Service for their assistance with the incident. The scene was cleared at
8:29 P.M.
