Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending Oct. 15, 2023:
The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is junior football player, Payton Thompson. Payton had one of the best rushing game in school history in an important win over Orion. He ran the ball 14 times for 252 yards. Payton took 3 of those 14 carries into the endzone and contributed 9 tackles on defense, as well.
The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is senior football player, Jake McElwee. Jake rushed for 98 yards on 23 carries in a Lincoln Land Conference win over Havana. He also hit the endzone on two of those 23 rushes. Jake’s rushing total has exceeded the 1000 yard mark season, giving him just under 2300 for his career, which is 2nd all-time for United High School.
The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is senior volleyball player, Liberty Miller. Libby handed out the second most assists for the Lady Heat during their run to a second place finish at the BPC Invite. She totaled 36 assists in the five matches for the weekend. In addition to volleyball, Libby also swims in high school meets, garnering many top-5 individual finishes and winning relay teams.
The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is senior boys soccer player and football kicker, Sam Satisky. Sam’s fall sports season was busy once again this school year. He had four goals in a win over the Orion/Sherrard co-op, giving him a total of 36 goals. That total smashes the single-season school record of 24. Sam also kicked a field goal and an extra point in Western Big Six Conference loss at Moline.
The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is senior football player, Tyler Condreay. Tyler’s has come up for the Tornadoes in the final weeks of the season. In a close loss to perennial power Elmwood/Brimfield, he caught 7 passes for 90 yards and scored a touchdown. Tyler has 21 catches for over 250 yards and 3 touchdowns on the season.
