Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending Oct. 8, 2023:
The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior volleyball player, Raelyn Stokes. The Titans won three matches last week to once again put them over 20 for the season. Raelyn was a big part of that success last week, hustling her way to 28 digs and serving for 3 aces with a 100% serve rate. Raelyn leads the Titans in total digs for the year, getting close to 300 on the season.
The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is sophomore girls golfer, Jalyn Wallace. Jalyn qualified for the IHSA State Finals by her fabulous performance at the Sectional meet at Wolf Creek in Pontiac. She carded a team-low score of 90 for an 11th place overall. Later in the week, Jalyn shot a 107 in the opening round of the State Finals at Red Tail Run in Decatur.
The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is sophomore volleyball player, Lauren Winters. Lauren was especially solid for the Lady Heat in two stat categories last week. She averaged just under 9 digs per match for the week that included four victories. Lauren also averaged almost 2 aces per match for the week, as well.
The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is sophomore girls swimmer, Lily Furrow. Lily earned two top-five finishes in the highly competitive 12-team United Township Invitational. She placed 2nd in the 100 yard butterfly and 5th in the 200 IM. Earlier in the week, Lily won two individual events and was a part of two winning relays in a meet vs. Metamora.
The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is sophomore girls cross country runner, Ali Janssen. Ali was the highest finishing Tornado runner at the Delavan Small School Invite. She ran her fastest time of the season, crossing the finish line in 33rd place with a mark of 23:10.4. Earlier this season, Ali placed 16th on a tough course at Monmouth Park in the Titan Invitational.
