Monmouth City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher Comments on Housing Needs

The City of Monmouth has been awarded the Research in Illinois to Spur Economic Recovery (RISE) Grant to create an economic plan to promote economic recovery in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. One priority goal the City Council plans to tackle with the RISE Grant is addressing housing needs, shares City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher:

“A housing needs study was done back in 2018 and have been working with both land developers and home builders to attract their willingness to invest in the community, primarily to focus on single family residential subdivision development. We will continue to do that, obviously the plan reinforces that as an important part of our economic recovery. I think the missing component that is really the main challenge that we have is finding a suitable development site in close proximity to the city limits. We are probably looking at something in the range of about 20 acres, at least for the first phase of a housing development.”

Administrator Steinbrecher informs another major priority in utilizing RISE Grant funds is continuing infrastructure improvements throughout the City.
