The CDC is warning of a salmonella outbreak in humans that’s linked to dry dog food. The agency say, seven cases of salmonella across seven states have been reported with one hospitalization and most of the cases are infants. They got it by touching contaminated dog food, dog bowls or touching the feces or saliva of dogs who ate the food. The US Food and Drug Administration has recalled the Victor brand Hi-Pro Plus dry dog food that’s linked to the outbreak. There are also other brands of dry dog and cat food sold by Hi-Pro Plus’s manufacturer, Mid America Pet Food, that are under FDA recall. The CDC recommends throwing out the food in a sealed trash bag to prevent wildlife from getting sick.
