Story by Kadin Rogers

The United Red Storm girls basketball team opens up their season tomorrow night at the ROWVA-Ridgewood Pre-Thanksgiving Tournament. The girls were slated to begin on Monday night, however due to low numbers in the Peoria Christian girls basketball program, the Red Storm will now play West Central in their first contest of pool play on Wednesday. United heads into this season under the stewardship of 2nd year head coach Chris Olson. Last season the Red Storm started with a 6-2 record over their first 8 games of Olson’s first year, with the JV girls also having a great season finishing at 18-2. Speaking on the WRAM Morning Show on Tuesday, Coach Olson says the talented young players in the program should give United fans reason to be excited for the future of the program, but the team will also have to overcome the challenge of not having a veteran senior leader on the roster.

Wednesday’s United vs West Central contest will tipoff from Williamsfield high school at 7:30. The winner of that game will win the pool and will take on another pool winner at 8:00 on Thursday. For the full interview with Coach Olson, go to the Sports Podcast section.
