EPA Announces Plan For Final E15 Rule

Share

After over a year and a half, the Environmental Protection Agency has announced it plans to issue a final, E15 rule by March 28th, 2024.

In April of 2022, eight Midwest Governors including Illinois’ JB Pritzker sent a joint letter to EPA Administrator Michael Regan asking for a permanent Reid Vapor Pressure waiver, allowing year-round E15 sales. Renewable Fuels Association President and CEO Geoff Cooper said the governors can file the petition because of the authority given to them through the Clean Air Act.

“EPA proposed to approve that request, all the way back in March, but they have not finalized that approval,” said Cooper. “So we are still waiting on those guidelines, still waiting on final approval from EPA. And so those states are in a lurch still wondering and waiting.”

As the rule currently stands, states can not sell E15 fuel between June 1st and September 15th.
